Midget’s & Juniors Seek Respective League Championships

After completing a 2 game sweep vs. Mississauga the Toronto Midget Aeros will compete at the LLFHL League Championships – March 28th and 28th in Oshawa.  Complete schedule can be found at http://www.llfhl.ca.

After finding themselves down 2-0 in QTR Final Series vs. Nepean the Toronto Junior Aeros completed the series comback with three straight wins and will compete in the PWHL Final 4 Championship – March 27th to 29th in Stoney Creek.  Complete schedule can be found at http://www.pwhl.ca.

The Toronto Aeros are pleased to announce head coaches for the 2015-16 hockey season

Intermediate AA (Junior) Aeros

Head Coach: Dave Gwyn

We are pleased to announce that Dave Gwyn is returning as Head Coach for the Toronto Aeros Intermediate AA team for the 2015-2016 season. Dave started his coaching career with the boys, where he coached Bantam AAA and Midget AAA for 8 years. Jumping to the girls’ game, Dave coached the Scarborough Sharks Midget AA team for two years, culminating in an OWHA Provincial Gold medal in 2009. That year, Dave led his team to the first Esso Cup National Midget Championships, taking the silver medal as the Ontario representatives. Dave then jumped to the PWHL for two years behind the bench of the Etobicoke Junior Dolphins where, in his first season there he guided the team to a respectable playoff finish, winning the PWHL Coach of the Year Award in the process. In 2011 Dave was named as Assistant Coach to the Team Canada Women’s National U-22 program and was behind the bench when they won Gold at the MLP Cup in Switzerland. In 2012 he coached Team Ontario Red to a bronze medal at the Canadian U18 National Championships and in 2013 was behind the bench with Team Ontario Blue, which took silver. Dave joined the Aeros in 2011-12, leading our Midget team to both LLFHL regular-season and playoff championships, and has been Head Coach to our Junior Aeros for the past three seasons. With Dave at the helm the Jr. Aeros captured Bronze at the PWHL Final 4 Championships in 2012-13 and Silver at the OWHA Provincial Championships in 2013-14.  Dave has NCCP 2 High Performance coaching certification with Level 3 Theory, and is a group leader and field evaluator for HP1 Certifications working with the Ontario Hockey Federation. We are pleased to welcome Dave back to the Junior Aeros for the 2015-2016 season.

Midget AA Aeros

Head Coach: Ken Dufton

We are pleased to announce that Ken Dufton will be returning behind the bench of the Head Coach of our Midget AA Aeros in 2015-2016. Ken has been a coach for 40 years and with the Aeros organization for about 30 years, much of it with our former senior women’s program, which won four National Championships and 15 Provincial Championships. Ken coached with the Canadian National Women’s Team as an Associate Coach when they won World Championships in both 1999 and 2004. He has been an Assistant Coach with the National U22 Team and in 1993 was the Head Coach of Team Ontario, National U-18 Champions. He has also been involved with the U22 National program as an Assistant Coach and U18 Provincial Team as a Head Coach. In 2005 and 2006 Ken coached the Intermediate Aeros in back to back League and Provincial Championships which included an undefeated season in 2005-06 league play. In 2009-10 and 2010-11 Ken guided the same team to two OWHA Provincial championships and PWHL Gold and Silver medals. Ken also coached our Midget team to a LLFHL Championship in 2008-09 and is the Head Coach of the Bishop Strachan School female hockey team and Assistant coach with the Ryerson University women’s program.

Ken has been Head Coach of our Midget AA Team for the past three seasons and will return for 2015-16.  Welcome back Ken!

North York Storm Bantam AA

Under our affiliation with the North York Storm, we are pleased to announce Frank Marson will return as head Coach of the 2015-16 North York Storm Bantam AA team. Frank Marson has been involved in women’s hockey in different capacities for many years. In 1999 he created and coached the Midget AA program in Durham. He was Head Coach there for 4 years and includes a Provincial Championship in his successes. In 2004, Frank served as General Manager of the Durham West Junior Lightning in the PWHL and the Telus Lightning in the NWHL. He has also been heavily involved in the Ontario U-18 program and has served on the executive of the PWHL.

Frank has been coaching with the Toronto Aeros for 8 years. This is Frank’s 1st season as Head Coach of the NYS Bantam AA team, previously he was an associate coach with the Junior Aeros for four years, and an Associate coach with the Midget Aeros for three years. In 2010-11 Frank served as head Coach of the Midget Aeros and guided them to an OWHA Provincial Championship. He subsequently took the team to the Esso National Midget Championships, representing Ontario, and won the bronze medal. Frank is currently coaching the North York Bantam AA team and will return to the team for another season.

2015 Toronto Aeros Dinner Dance

Salsa-LondonWill be held on Friday, January 16 starting at 6:30pm at the Montecassino Banquet Hall on Chesswood Drive, in support of our organization.  Tickets are $100 each and are available by contacting Greg Bridgwater or your favorite current Aeros player.  Your ticket buys you a good meal, an open bar, dancing, live and silent auctions, introductions to the current Aeros players, and overall a pretty classy evening that’s always a good time.
